The photo above shows leading lines. The lines on the racetrack take you all the way from the left and lead you to the finish along with Usain Bolt. Another great factor that made this photo was the looks of struggle in all of their faces.
This photo above shows framing. The walls of leaves help isolate the subject away from anything else. The man is made easier to see because of these frames of leaves.
The photo above is a good example of rule of thirds. Mitt Romney is put in the bottom right corner, which is where I imagine the 9 even squares cut. He is placed directly where they intersect making me look at him.
This photo here shows good balance to me. The people on the left balance out the people on the right and vice versa. Also the dog (subject) in the middle is made easier to find because of this balance.
